We are calling for Ugandan artists to participate in Imagine Us Here 2011 - Portrait Of Us

Imagine Us Here

In 2010 Kushinda worked with Social Enterprise Africa (SEA) and artists John Okot, Ssali Yusuf and Damba Ismail on a youth art project - Imagine Us Here - in Kampala, Uganda.

Run in conjunction with SEA’s Butterfly Project, Imagine Us Here identifies talented young artists of school age, from some of Kampala’s most deprived areas, and provides them with regular access to art materials and art tuition.

Launched with a small grant from Bayimba Cultural Foundation the initial phase of the project is now complete, with the children’s artwork on display at the Bayimba International Festival of Arts and Culture in Kampala . Kushinda and SEA are now working with the project members to sustain Imagine Us Here as a long-term resource, providing ongoing access to a safe and inspirational venue stocked with art materials and with continuing guidance from Ugandan professional artists.

An online ‘Virtual Exhibition’ is planned where international well-wishers and interested individuals can view the art, learn about the children’s hopes and aspirations, watch their artistic progress, and contribute to the project by purchasing prints and greeting cards featuring their work, details here soon.
